Correct Benadryl dosage: your doctor knows best
Benadryl is an antihistamine drug. It is generally used against
histamine induced allergies. Seasonal allergies such as coughs, runny nose,
sneezing, and other respiratory irritations can be treated by Benadryl.
You have to follow the correct Benadryl dosage which can be seen on its
paper label. To be safe however, you need to ask your doctor regarding the
correct Benadryl dosage that is great for you.
The right Benadryl dosage can only be advised by your doctor. If you take
Benadryl, you will feel its advantages in 1 hour. A dose of Benadryl usually
have an effect for five to six hours.
For adults, 25 mg to 50mg of Benadryl dosage is generally advised. The
amount depends on the severity of your illness. Benadryl should also be
taken three to four times daily. If you are using Benadryl as a sleep
medication, a 50 mg dose before bedtime is usually recommended.
Benadryl can also be provided to kids. Of course, children should get lower
doses of Benadryl. 12 mg to 25 mg would be sufficient dosage for children 12
years old and older. They also have to get the medicine 3 times or four
times a day. It should be noted that the dosage of Benadryl medication for
children should not be higher 300 mg per day.
For very small kids and those below 12 years of age, Benadryl is generally
not suggested for them. This drug must not be used as sleep medicine for
little children belonging to this age bracket.
Only your doctor will really know the best Benadryl dosage for you. There
are several factors that will be noted when administering Benadryl. Aside
from the severity of your allergies, such factors such as age, weight, and
the general well-being of the patient are considered. So it is really great
to consult a doctor before deciding to take Benadryl medication.
